Tristan Wong | A+D have extensive experience in hotel and hospitality design, having worked on projects for many large, medium and boutique size clients.

From large scale 300+ room hotels in Docklands and Southbank, through to midscale hotel projects of 150 rooms - like the award winning Fantauzzo hotel in Brisbane, and all the way down to boutique local scaled hotel projects of 40 - 50 keys.

These projects were all undertaken whilst Tristan was director at SJB.

The Fantauzzo is a boutique, riverside hotel located in Brisbane.
It sits nestled into the cliff face - from which its fragmented, modulating facade and tonal palette is derived (a mapping of the cliff face was made and superimposed across the building) - behind significant heritage buildings along the waterfront, and under the impressive (and imposing) Story Bridge.

With 155 rooms, half of which face the river, the others that face the captivating cliff face - which is lit up and night becoming a dramatic backdrop to the hotel.

This project nimbly navigates the competing forces of its location, the Story bridge above, heritage buildings in the foreground, the river itself, and in creating a contemporary short term accommodation building that is both bold but quiet at the same time. Its ‘camoflage’ facade with fragmented forms and earthy tones softens its presence within the precinct.

This project was awarded the highest honor in the Commercial Architecture category at the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter awards - The Beatrice Hutton Award.

Lorne Hotel - render SJB

Lorne Boutique Hotel was a concept design, ultimately achieving town planning approval, sitting within a highly sensitive part of Lorne.
The design of the building navigates steep topography and nestles 50 suites into and across the undulating site.
The robust and monolithic concrete is offset and softened through the extensive use of timber that act as screens and shutters providing both solar control and privacy as needed.

Napier St Hotel

The Napier St Hotel was envisaged as a small scale boutique hotel in Fitzroy. With only 40 rooms, its modest scale allowed for a highly customised approach to all aspects of the hotels design and operability. And importantly it filled an important gap with little short term accommodation currently available in the area - renowned for its art establishments, culture, live music and performance scene and rich history.
